Important Advisory from MOM: Enforcement on Commercial Diving Safety Standards

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has recently highlighted concerns about unsafe commercial diving practices in Singapore’s waters. Their investigations revealed that some contractors have been using recreational scuba gear instead of proper commercial diving equipment, and in some cases, uncertified divers were involved. Unfortunately, these lapses have already resulted in two fatalities this year.

To address these safety issues, MOM will be stepping up inspections and taking firm action. Any diving contractor or individual found using unsafe equipment or lacking the necessary certifications may face Stop Work Orders (SWOs) and other penalties. The Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) will also stop issuing diving permits to contractors with SWOs.

Make sure your team is compliant with the industry standards. For details on acceptable commercial diving certifications, check out the CDAS Certification Guidelines.
